Marine Industry

Most of all consumer goods have spent some part of their journey on a ship, making the marine industry one of the primary drivers of globalization and trade.

Overview

Vessels move cargo around the world in far greater volumes more efficiently, safely, and with a lower environmental impact than any other mode of transportation. The marine industry is being defined to include any economic activity of or relating to the oceans, rivers, and the Great Lakes. This includes traditional maritime activities such as designing, constructing, manufacturing, supplying, maintaining vessels or parts, operating and managing shipping lines, or crewing ships.

The marine and shipping industries are one of the largest constituent industries when analyst their integrated economic activities with other industries at the global level. The success of the marine industry is based on the supply and demand of goods from around the world, it is one of the key industries sustaining the global economy to date.

Advances in technologies, such as the development of faster and lighter ships, and improvements in navigational systems have improved the overall operation of the industry. Due to its continuous development, more engineering copper and its alloys are required because of good corrosion resistance behavior, galvanic behavior, and recyclability in the marine atmosphere and seawater.  Copper shows very little pitting or crevice corrosion, together with high resistance to marine biofouling. Copper is therefore essential for the marine and ship industry.

Various applications include seawater piping, heat exchangers, sacrificed anodes, and fuel lines that rely on copper materials. For instance, copper DHP (Deoxidized High Phosphorus – CW024A) is commonly used for tubing in marine environments. In addition, the copper was found to prevent barnacle growth on the hulls, as its surface is inhospitable to marine growth such as barnacles and algae. Copper and its alloys indeed are inherently antifouling.

At Oriental Copper, we have been supplied our copper product solutions in the form of sacrificed anodes and DHP alloys to the market. We strive to provide the best service and reliable copper anode bars and alloys to those customers who need reliable materials for the marine industry.
