Tin plating

Overview

Tin plating copper is mostly used in application that works in corrosive environment i.e., in dessert or near seashore. The corrosion may cause short circuit when inputting with high current which leads to more often maintenance and downtime.

 

To work in such high corrosive condition, coppers for switchboard-switchgear, power transformers and busduct applications should have tin- or silver-plated finishing to increase their life span and continuity of its functions.

 

Oriental copper  provides one stop service solution through our in- house tin plating facilities.  We put our utmost care in product surface preparation by double cleaning processto ensure excellent result of adhesion between copper and tin coating layer. We can supply our customers with difference of plating thickness depends on severity of corrosion environment. We guarantee thickness of plating by non-destructive measurement technology.

  • We have a multi pre-treatment process: 1) Hot soaking 2) General Water spray 3) Electro-Degreasing. – We do this to ensure the quality of tin adhesion to the bare copper:
  • OC’s tin purity is 99.95% others may not be as pure as ours. With a higher purity of tin it increases joint effectiveness when bars are connected.
  • OC’s tin-plating process lasts longer than others. When low quality tin plating is used, the tin applied to the bare copper surface could peel off after the bus bar is bent or after thermal shock.
  • OC is the only manufacturer who provides an in-house tin-plating in the far-east. We assure 100% quality control. Third-party tin plating might paint over the stamped area after fabricating.

A Tin Whisker is a tiny filament which usually occurs on bright tin surfaces after a tin product has been used over time particularly in electronic applications. This filament is caused by a natural compressive stress. Unchecked, leads to electric arcing. To eliminate this problem the thickness of tin plating can be increased.

  2. Less fingerprint marks on the surface
  3. Bright tin has an aesthetic, high quality appearance; this will help promote finished customer equipment as a first-class product.

Tin-coating applied to the contact surface prevents or delays oxidation when operating at high temperature or in extreme environments for long term usage.
