Watt loss in a switchboard is a result of the electrical resistance in a busbar system, and electrical resistance generates heat. – This is noticeably higher at jointing points where electrical resistance is greater. Direction changes of busbars in switchboards require jointing points, so the greater number of joints means higher watt loss, more generation of heat and excessive use of copper.
